N’Assembly may demand 2014 budget from Amaechi

The National Assembly may request the Rivers State Governor,  Mr. Rotimi Amaechi,  to forward the state’s 2014 appropriation bill to it if he failed to do so on his own, at the appropriate time.
The senator, representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, said this during an interview with our correspondent on Sunday.
Abe said none of the two chambers of the National Assembly had treated any issue on Rivers State since they took over legislative responsibilities of the state House of Assembly in July this year.
Abe said the implication of the development was that the federal lawmakers would on their own, look for issues to be addressed in the state and begin work on them since neither the people nor the government of Rivers State had drawn their attention to any.
He said the governor could decide to send the budget proposals through any means including electronic transmission since there was no law that required him to physically present it before both chambers.
He said, “Two options are available; either the Senate will on its own go to look for issues concerning Rivers and begin to treat them or issues will be brought to us by the Rivers State Government and we treat them.
“We are waiting for it (the budget), if it comes, it will be passed like any other bill.”
