Former Governor of Kwara State and serving Senator, Bukola Saraki has revealed plans to liberate not less that five thousand Kwara youths from the clutches of unemployment.
He made the revelation today at the launch of the Kwara Youth Technical summit organized by his senatorial district constituency office at the King Stone Hotels, Ilorin, Kwara state.
Expressing delight that the Kwara state governor could make the event despite being a Monday morning, he said, “My hope and dream is that from our discussion, we will find a solution that will provide jobs to start with, jobs for over 5 Thousand people immediately.
“This will include both entrepreneurship schemes largely and regular white-collar jobs. The entrepreneurship schemes will provide at the end of the program a capital take off grants. I will seek the Governor’s partnership in coming up with a solution.
Saraki noted that entrepreneurship was the best way to tackle the problem of unemployment all over the world today even as he tasked participants to come up with actionable suggestions that will solve some unemployment problems in the state.
He said, “How do we provide jobs for the youths, be it graduates or non-graduates. How do we provide skill acquisition to many? We must hear from you what skills need be developed
“All over the world today, entrepreneurship promotion is the new trend particularly to address the challenges related to alarming high youth unemployment rate.
“I am of the view that Special attention must be paid to social Entrepreneurship model, which should be infused in the real economy closer to the youth within their local environment and aimed at contributing to their welfare and the general good of their communities.
“Individuals like me cannot do it all, you must be ready to seize the opportunity, you must be committed, you must be serious and see it as a journey to success.”
He explained that recommendations from the summit will be reviewed for the next four weeks after which a road map would be put together to empower the selected participants.
“By early next month, we will then begin to identify those successful participants. That will have a process that which appropriate candidates based on merits will emerge. These participants will undergo the training, and in the end start their new businesses.
“Finally, I give you my commitment here today that, whatever recommendations are made at this summit will help shape the scheme that will be rolled out. It is my hope that after today’s summit you will be properly guided to enable you actualize your dreams and potentials, the senator added.
